WritingRoom Terms of Service
Effective: October 8, 2026.
These Terms govern your use of writingroom.io (the "Service"), operated by Terry Michaels Studios LLC. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Who can use the Service
You must be at least 16 years old. The Service is not available in countries subject to U.S. trade sanctions.
2. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your sign-in credentials and for all activity under your account. WritingRoom is new and still growing, and some parts are still being built. We may decline to open an account or close one at our discretion.
3. What you can do on WritingRoom
You can create songs, invite co-writers, create writing camps, sign split sheets, export PDFs/audio, and use the in-app features. You agree not to: infringe third-party IP; upload illegal/defamatory/harassing content; circumvent security; resell access without our agreement; train ML models on the Service or extract our database structure for re-use elsewhere; or impersonate another person.
4. Your content and your rights
You own what you create: your lyrics, melodies, voice memos, demos, splits. WritingRoom does not claim ownership.
License to operate: You grant WritingRoom a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to host, store, transmit, display, and back up your content for the sole purpose of providing the Service. This license ends when you delete your content or your account. We do not use your content for any other purpose.
Splits and signatures: Split sheets are records of your agreement with co-writers. WritingRoom is the venue, not a party. Signatures are preserved as historical records (your name is replaced with "Former co-writer" on account deletion, but the signed PDF and percentage remain).
Co-writer content: When you invite a co-writer, you co-own the song with them. You cannot unilaterally delete a song you co-wrote with someone else.
5. Camps, admins, and observation modes
If you organize a camp, be transparent with writers about the camp's observation mode (View only / Comment / Modify with logging). All admin modifications are logged with reason; writers see banners on next visit. Admins must not extract or distribute writers' work outside the Service without permission.
6. AI features
WritingRoom uses third-party AI providers for narrowly-scoped features. See "How AI is Used in WritingRoom" for the full list. When you press an AI feature, you direct us to send the text you gave it to the provider. We don't use it to train any model, and you keep ownership of any output you use. Posts that other writers can see are also checked automatically, as described there.
7. Pricing
Paid plans: Studio ($19/month), Publisher ($99/month), Label (starting at $999/month). Annual billing is discounted. Payments are processed by Stripe. Label plans are arranged with us by email. The Free tier remains available. Every account starts on Free, which stays free.
Every new account can start one free month of Studio, with no card needed. It ends by itself and the account goes back to Free. The free month is once per person. Choosing a paid plan on the Plans page is separate: a person who hasn't had the free month starts with 30 days before the first charge, and a person who already had it gets no trial days there, so the plan starts the day they pick it. Nothing is charged without a plan being chosen and a card being entered.
8. Intellectual property of the Service
WritingRoom (app, code, designs, brand, copy, integrations) is the IP of Terry Michaels Studios LLC. You may not copy, redistribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works.
9. Termination
You may delete your account in Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. After termination, Privacy Policy Section 5 governs how data is handled.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free service. Export tools are provided in-app. Please use them.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $100. WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify WritingRoom against claims arising from your content (e.g., third-party infringement claims) or your violation of these Terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
Governed by the laws of the State of Florida. We prefer informal resolution: email [email protected]. If unresolved within 60 days, disputes go to binding arbitration on an individual basis (no class actions).
13. Changes to these Terms
Material changes announced by email at least 14 days before effective. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
