FAQ

Quick answers

Do I need to sign up to try WritingRoom?
No. The Lyric Analyzer, Academy, Live Camps directory, and Writer Directory are all free to browse without an account. Signing up unlocks the workspace, where you can write songs, run camps, and manage splits.
How does pricing work?
Free includes the public surfaces and a small workspace cap. Studio unlocks the full editor, AI co-writer, demo recording, and one hosted camp at a time. Publisher unlocks unlimited camps, the cross-camp dashboard, and roster tools. Label adds bundled Studio seats for your whole roster. See the Pricing page for the latest details.
Who owns the songs I write here?
You do. WritingRoom never claims ownership of any lyric, melody, or recording you create. Splits sheets you sign on the platform are stored as records you can export at any time.
What's a writing camp on WritingRoom?
Same thing as a writing camp anywhere else — a group of songwriters writing together over a focused window of days, often toward a specific artist or theme. The platform handles the workspace, rosters, splits, and exports for everyone in the camp. Public camps also have a discoverable landing page so future writers can find them.
How do public camps work? Are they actually open to anyone?
No. Public means publicly listed (so writers can find the camp brand and apply for future cohorts) but participation stays invite-only. The host curates who actually writes.
How does the public writer profile work?
Off by default. You opt in from Settings, fill in skills, location, bio, and links. Then your profile is visible at /writer/your-id and you appear in the Writer Directory. Hosts can find you when they're building rosters.
Are voice memos secure on the platform?
Yes. Memos are uploaded to authenticated storage and only visible to writers on the song or in the camp. They are never indexed publicly.
Can I install WritingRoom as an app on my phone?
Yes. On iOS Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android Chrome, the install prompt appears automatically. The app then opens in standalone mode without browser chrome.
I have a question that isn't answered here.
Email terry@writingroom.io or use the in-app help chat. Real human responses, usually within a day.
Are my voice memos private?
Yes — voice memos are stored in your own workspace and are only visible to you and any co-writers you've explicitly added to that song. We do not use your audio to train any models.
Can I record voice memos on iPhone?
Yes. We optimized recording for iOS Safari so you can capture voice memos directly in the browser without installing anything.
What does the Lyric Analyzer actually do?
You paste lyrics, and it scores the song across structure, hook strength, lyrical depth, and commercial fit, then explains the score in plain language so you can decide what to tweak.
Is the Lyric Analyzer free?
Yes — the Lyric Analyzer is free to try without signing up. Saving and tracking analyses requires a free account.
Can I export lyrics from a song?
Yes. Open any song, click Export, and choose PDF, plain text, or the full export package which includes lyrics, sections, and split sheet metadata.
